There are different times to prune different trees. For example, trimming or pruning your Oaks, Elms or Ash for example is best done in October - March depending on the Spring. In fact, there are many benefits to pruning your trees and many reasons to do so. Being proactive in your tree care keeps your trees from being stressed and problem free.
When trees are in full bloom and the air is unable to move through the tree those leaves and branches then act like a wall. During high winds and storms, the wind is unable to move through the tree without breaking branches and or pushing the tree over.
By pruning the tree, you are giving that tree air movement as well as letting that tree put its energy in to the healthy limbs. Also, clearance under the tree makes for a more pleasurable experience when mowing the grass.
Have you ever notice after a bad storm dead trees are still standing and a live tree is now laying on someone’s house? Removing dead from your tree, helps eliminate the bugs that move in and further damage your tree. Woodpeckers are interested in those bugs. Branches growing down or towards house and other structures can be pruned and redirected away.
Trees that have been trimmed or pruned are clean from dead limbs or broken limbs that may fall unexpectedly, harming your family or home. Keeping your trees pruned helps keep them healthy. Healthy trees are more likely to withstand our storms and respond to attacks from insect and disease.
